SLOTTED HEX NUT
Very similar to the Castle Nut, the slotted hex nut functions in the same manner. Used in situations the nut needs to be locked in place to prevent backing. It is used by drilling a hole in the mating shaft where a cotter pin is inserted through the slots on the nut and the hole in the shaft. This is more commonly stocked than the castle nut, the main difference being the full hex on the top of the nut, where the castle nut is turned down.
